Dining:

The Taproom- This is on the south side of Main Street. It is one of our favorite spots! It is a bar but the food is fantastic! They have live music throughout the week! They have an amazing Sunday brunch until 2-- get there early because it fills up fast! They also have Taco Tuesday- $2 tacos, $2 Margarita’s, and $2 Modelo’s. The Loaded Tots you must experience!

The Broadway Tavern- One of the oldest bars in Indiana ( supposedly haunted, and I can say I have had a few experiences there myself!)

Currently under remodeling– closed at this time ( May-2022).

The Drake Lounge and Restaurant ( must be 21)-The Drake is an old former hotel that has been converted into a new lounge and restaurant. They specialize in pizza, and amazing calzones ( they are huge!)

The Black Olive- This establishment is up on the hill on Clifty Drove. It sits behind Wendy’s.

They specialize in Italian cuisine.

The Central Tavern-This is the original hotel and building where they filmed “ Some came Running” ( see the movie poster in our gray bedroom!) featuring Frank Sinatra, Shirley McClaine, and Dean Martin. This is a tavern that has weekly music and allows smoking as well.

Pizza Uncommon- If you want to try a truly unique choice of pizzas this is your place! You can also order your own toppings as well. The breadsticks are to die for as well! Located on Main Street across from Hong Kong Kitchen.

Red on Main- This is a more upscale dining establishment. Great cocktails-- highly recommend the martinis and the Paloma.

MadLove- Truly a neat environment and have a nice variety of dishes. Wednesdays is Italian Night ( all homemade pasta). The atmosphere is geared toward music– so many amazing pictures and paintings. They have a back patio as well– no smoking is allowed on the patio.

Family-friendly, and Jeff and Kim will take great care of you!

Located on Main Street with the big bright sign on the building!

MadPaddle Brewery- MadPaddle has recreated a very cool space and renovated an old mill into a brewery. Often have live music and patio is available for outside seating.

Shipley’s Tavern- My husband swears this is the best burger in town! Great tenderloins and crinkle-cut fries! Make sure and look at the mural behind the building-- painted by Hanover art students in 2009.

The Lighthouse Marina- This is the ONLY place right on the river. It is a great place for music, and for a cocktail. The food is your typical bar food.

The Downtowner- Located on Main St- southside. This offers outdoor seating and has wonderful sandwiches and soups.

Hong Kong Kitchen- GREAT Chinese food! The garlic sauce is amazing, steamed dumplings the best I have ever had, and always super fresh!

(They are closed on Tuesday’s)

Bellow’s Pizza- This is more of a carryout place, but outdoor seating is available. They have wonderful fresh ingredients and if you really are hungry ask for the “ Leroy.”

( Closed on Sunday’s and do offer delivery)

The Red Pepperoni- This is another great pizza spot on west Main street south side of the street. Great wings, and offer cauliflower crust! Outdoor seating is available as well.

Hinkle’s- This is Madison’s very own White Castle! They have amazing shakes and also serve breakfast!

Bad Apple Mac’s- Homemade rolls and bread make this place amazing! Quaint little cafe offers outdoor seating. Check on hours before going, some hour changes have occurred.

The Red Pepper Deli-- Are you seeing a common theme here? Red this and that? These places are all owned by the same family. This deli is wonderful. Sandwiches and soups, along with one amazing pasta bowtie salad! Has a little kick to it, but ohhhh so good!’

The Red Roaster Cafe and Coffee shop- great corner coffee shop, sandwiches and smoothies. They offer outdoor seating as well.

The Rivertown Grill- New to Madison since Spring of 2021. They provide a very diversified menu and are located close to the river and Main St.

Horst Bakery- One thing Madison is known for is pastries-- especially donuts from this amazing little bakery. There are 2 locations- one downtown on West Main, and the other up on Clifty Drive, the downtown location has breakfast as well.

Tapatio Mexican- This place has beautiful paintings, and back building view. They also have a huge front patio ad fountain. Very good food!

Mi Viejo- This is located up on Clifty Drive behind Taco Bell. Largest margarita’s I have ever seen! Offer Mexican pizzas that are very popular as well!

Dieago’s Mexican- This is on Clifty Drive west headed toward Hanover. Fabulous drinks and street tacos.

BBop’s Pizza- This is one of our favorite pizza places! The sauce s unreal and the wood oven makes the pizzas taste unbelievable. The breadsticks are a must as well!

Small place, but so great! The owners actually went to NYC and trained with folks in Little Italy- it was worth it!

Moyashi’s- If you like sushi, this is for you! This only seats a small area- so go early! It is in a house and the atmosphere is not like anything you have probably experienced. The Chef is well known, and this is the best sushi I have ever had along with the amazing presentations.

Carryout, and outdoor seating available.

Crafted Coffee- Right on the corner of Broadway and Main St this is a small very quaint coffee shop, offering daily food specials as well. One of my favorite coffee spots.

Harry’s Stone Grill- This is up on Clifty Drive West and on the south side of the street.

This is a very diversified menu. Steaks, seafood, burger, etc.

The Clifty Inn - The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. for dinner ( at times offers a buffet) and provides a breathtaking view of the Ohio River. Their fried chicken is amazing!

Every Saturday until noon is the local Farmer’s Market. This is located on Broadway St. off Main St., and north. It surrounds the Broadway fountain ( one of the must-sees here in Madison).

Wineries:

Lanthier- This is located downtown and they have free samples and a beautiful garden area. During the holidays the display of decorated Christmas trees is breathtaking. Try the crockpot spiced wine during the wintertime.

Stream Cliff- This is our favorite! Beautiful gardens along with a retail area where they sell plants is open to shop! Tasting room, along with a large barn with live music periodically makes it so unique. The tasting room is cozy and the wine they have I feel is some of the best. It is a small drive, but it is a beautiful country drive and so worth it! The restaurant they have has wonderful food and the Blueberry salad dressing is a must!

Thomas Family Winery- This is located downtown, 2 blocks north of the river! Great outdoor patio area, and wonderful charcuterie boards! They do offer live music on occasion.

The Lanier Mansion- This is close to the river ( off Vaughn Drive) and they provide tours that some have said are haunting! A lot of history behind the Lanier Family-- I won’t give it away, but the tour guide can fill you in with all those details.

***CHECK MONTHLY FESTIVAL EVENTS, LIVE MUSIC, and special Main Street First Friday sales!

Madison has some of the most talented musicians we have ever seen. We have had numerous big names play in our town and encourage you to venture out to listen at one of the venues offering live music.

*** Would suggest you google the retailer location, venue, or restaurant to double-check on any changed times or days of being open- due to Covid.
